Corinne Bailey Rae, born on February 26, 1979, in Leeds, England, is a versatile vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, violinist, percussionist, and songwriter. Her musical influences range from Led Zeppelin to Björk, with notable role models including Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. Rae has drawn comparisons to Billie Holiday among others. She began her musical journey as a child in a church choir and formed an indie band called 'Helen' at the age of 15. After studying English Literature at Leeds University, she worked as a hat check girl at a jazz club, where she had the opportunity to sing with the house band. Rae gained significant recognition when she performed her first single, "Like A Star," on the UK TV show 'Later...With Jools Holland' in November 2005. Her debut album, 'Corinne Bailey Rae,' was released in February 2006, and she won two MOBO awards in September 2006. She also collaborated with David Arnold on the music for the film 'Venus.' Rae was married to a saxophonist from 2001 until his death in 2008.
