Count Five was a US band formed in 1964 in San Jose, California. Known for their psychedelic-punk sound, they gained significant attention with their hit "Psychotic Reaction," which reached the US Top 5 in 1966. The band was distinctive for wearing Dracula-style capes during their performances. They recorded one album titled "Psychotic Reaction" and released several singles before disbanding in 1969. The band's legacy was further highlighted in a 1972 essay by renowned rock writer Lester Bangs, titled "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung," where he mistakenly credited them with several albums that never actually existed. The line-up of Count Five included: - John "Sean" Byrne: vocals, guitar - John "Mouse" Michalski: lead guitar - Roy Chaney: bass - Craig "Butch" Atkinson: drums - Kenn Ellner: harmonica, vocals.
