Count Lasher was a prominent figure in Jamaica's mento music scene, celebrated as one of its greatest vocalists and writers. His versatility allowed him to excel in both rural and urban mento styles, as well as in original compositions and traditional Jamaican folk songs. During the golden age of mento, he emerged as Jamaica's biggest star, known for his talent and charisma, with his popularity rivaled only by Lord Flea. Lasher was also a prolific artist, recording at least 50 tracks throughout the early 1970s. His musical journey saw him transition from various mento sounds to a brief exploration of ska and then into reggae. Despite his extensive catalog of singles, he never released a CD or LP, and today, only a few of his tracks are available. Count Lasher is often regarded as one of the most neglected artists in the history of Jamaican recorded music. He passed away in 1977 at the age of 51.
