Count Ossie was a pioneering figure in the realm of Nyahbinghi drumming, which is a practice common to all Rastafarians, though he is noted for being the first to record this style. His contributions to music played a significant role in establishing and maintaining Rastafari culture. Count Ossie, who passed away in 1976, blended traditional Jamaican Kumina drumming with influences from songs and rhythms he learned from the recordings of a Nigerian musician.
