Craig Shepard is an American composer, sound artist, and trombonist born in 1975, known for creating music that explores themes of stillness. He directs the event series Music For Contemplation, leads silent walks, and composes music for large outdoor groups. His recent large-scale projects include Broken Silence, On Foot, and Trumpet City. Shepard's music, published by Edition Wandelweiser, has been described as "dreamlike melancholy," "touchingly beautiful," and "truly invulnerable." He has collaborated with notable figures such as Christian Wolff and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, among others.
