Crawling Chaos is a UK band from Tyneside, featuring members Martin Rees, Jeff Crowe, David Halton, Garry Clennell, Eddie Fenn, and others. Initially, Dave Cook and Steve Smith were part of the band, but they left before the first release, which was the "Sex Machine" single on Factory, released in June 1980. This was followed by the "Homunculus Equinox" cassette, released in late 1981 on the band's own label. Their first LP, "The Gas Chair," was released in January 1982 on Factory Benelux; it was originally intended to be titled "The Gas Chair Clown" as an anagram of Crawling Chaos. Both albums originated from the same 1981 recording sessions at the band's studio, The Pits. Crawling Chaos continued to record and release further albums, with "Spookhouse" compiling their last recordings from 1987. The band also ran their own club night in Newcastle for a time.
