Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) was an American rock band active from 1967 to 1972, formed in Berkeley, California, by John Fogerty (vocals and guitar), Tom Fogerty (rhythm guitar), Stu Cook (bass), and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford (drums). The band's music often evoked imagery of the American South, despite their California roots. The group's origins trace back to 1959 when John Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford initially formed The Blue Velvets, later backing John's older brother, Tom, as Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets. They subsequently changed their name to the Golliwogs and released several unsuccessful singles. In 1967, they adopted the name Creedence Clearwater Revival, with John Fogerty taking full control of the band. CCR was highly prolific, releasing six albums and various singles between 1968 and 1970. However, tensions arose among the band members due to John's dominance, leading to Tom Fogerty's departure in 1971. The trio released one final album, "Mardi Gras," in 1972, which was poorly received. Following Tom's exit, John agreed to let Cook and Clifford contribute equally to writing and recording, but the band ultimately split.
