Crispy Ambulance is a band formed in 1977 in Manchester by Alan Hempsall and Robert Davenport. Initially a two-man outfit, they expanded their lineup in 1978 by adding Keith Darbyshire and Gary Madeley. Over the next five years, they recorded sessions for local and national radio and released several records on labels such as Factory, Factory Benelux, and Aural Assault. The band toured extensively in the UK and Europe, both as a headline act and as a support act for notable bands like Joy Division, Killing Joke, and Section 25. Crispy Ambulance disbanded in 1982, with members pursuing various projects. In 1999, they reunited for a performance in Manchester to celebrate the re-release of two of their earlier albums on the LTM record label, followed by the release of two additional studio albums.
