Crowded House is a rock band formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1985, and has been based in Auckland, New Zealand, since 1988. The band was originally active from 1985 to 1996, with founding members including New Zealander Neil Finn (vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter) and Australians Paul Hester (drums) and Nick Seymour (bass). Later members included Neil Finn's brother Tim Finn and Americans Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod. Mark Hart, who had previously toured with the group, became a permanent member in 1993. Founding drummer Hester left the band in May 1994 for family reasons but briefly returned for their "Farewell to the World" concerts in 1996 and played on three new tracks recorded for the album "Recurring Dream." His replacement, Peter Jones, remained with the group until their disbandment in 1996. On March 26, 2005, Hester died by suicide. In 2006, the band re-formed with new drummer Matt Sherrod and released two albums in 2007 and 2010. In November 2016, they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. On December 9, 2019, Neil Finn announced a new line-up that included himself and Seymour, along with Tim Finn and others, which resulted in the departure of Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod.
