Crushed Butler was a British proto punk band active from 1969 to 1970, followed by another group called Tiger from 1970 to 1971. They were among the earliest British proto punk bands of the 1960s, alongside notable acts such as the Deviants, Edgar Broughton Band, Hawkwind, and Stack Waddy. Crushed Butler is often regarded as England's equivalent to the earliest American proto punk bands from the same era, including the Velvet Underground, Flamin' Groovies, Blue Cheer, MC5, and the Stooges. Following their time, the early 1970s saw the emergence of other British proto punk bands like the Pink Fairies, Shagrat, and Third World War.
