**Bio: Crystal Revelation** Crystal Revelation formed in 1963 in Rochester (Pittsford), NY, with founding members John Lake and John O'Brien, who were previously part of a band called The Norsmen. Their first performance occurred when they were in the 7th grade, playing a high school dance at just 12 years old, where they learned the meaning of "grinding." In 1966, they added drummer Ray Shostak, performing as a power trio until 1969 when keyboardist Mark Connolly joined. The band played in the Catskills during the summer and at frat parties throughout upstate New York during the school year. Initially named The Crystal Ship, they changed their name to Crystal Revelation after the Doors' song was released, taking inspiration from the lyric "mystic crystal revelation" from "Aquarius" by The Fifth Dimension. In the summer of 1968, they performed with a local group called the Infinity Of Sound and had a male and female vocalist front. Their influences included the Young Rascals, and they participated in several "battles of the bands," covering songs by The Who, Cream, Otis Redding, and Three Dog Night. In September 1970, they played during initiation week at Syracuse University in the student center. They toured downstate New York and New England, performing in various clubs and hotels. The band decided to record at Fine Recording Studio due to the friendly and competent producer/engine
