Curtis Fuller was an American jazz trombonist born on December 15, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan. He spent several years in a Jesuit orphanage from the age of 9 after the death of both his parents. Initially discouraged from playing the violin, he became intrigued by the trombone after seeing a performance. He moved to New York City in April 1957, where he was a member of a prominent group and led or co-led eight albums by the end of that year for various labels. After working with different artists, he joined a group from 1961 to 1964 when it functioned as a sextet. Fuller was believed to have been born in 1934 until after his death on May 8, 2021, in Detroit, Michigan.
