Curtis Liggins was the founder of a 1960s soul group known as The Indications, hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. The band was prominent in the local music scene during the late sixties, often incorporating cowboy hats and Native American regalia to secure steady gigs. In 1969, they recorded their sole original single, featuring the A-side "Funky Monkey Right On," which begins with a "Shaft"-esque hi-hat pattern and evolves into a near-psychedelic, guitar-driven track. The flip side of the single is an up-tempo, socially aware dancer that showcases the band's talent, despite its rushed creation. Tragically, Liggins' career was cut short in 1972 when he lost his life in a car accident while returning home from a gig in Iowa. The members of The Indications included Curtis Liggins on bass, Clifford Liggins on drums, Kelsey Hill on lead guitar, Arthur Malone on rhythm guitar, and Kenneth Cameron as a co-drummer.
