Curtis Mayfield was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer, born on June 3, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He passed away on December 26, 1999, in Roswell, Georgia, at the age of 57. Mayfield co-founded an R&B vocal group in the late 1950s and, in the mid-1960s, founded and owned soul labels. He left The Impressions in 1970 to pursue a solo career and co-founded a record label. He was also the father of a child.
