Cut Chemist is a highly skilled solo turntablist and a prominent member of the underground rap group Jurassic 5 and the Latin-funk band Ozomatli. He began his career with the L.A. rap group Unity Committee, debuting on record with the B-side of their 1993 single "Unified Rebelution." His track "Lesson 4: The Radio" paid homage to the influential hip-hop collage works of Double D and Steinski, featuring references to artists like Indeep, Bob James, Spoonie Gee, and Dan Ackroyd. Following the release of his debut, Unity Committee joined forces with another group, Rebels of Rhythm, to form Jurassic 5. Within the group, Cut Chemist contributed "Lesson 6" to their self-titled EP and produced the entire record. He also explored remixing for artists such as DJ Shadow and Liquid Liquid, and collaborated with the band Less Than Jake, as well as performing with Ozomatli. In mid-1997, he released his first album, Live at the Future Primitive Sound Session, alongside Shortkut of Invisibl Skratch Piklz. His work has been featured on influential turntablist compilations, including Return of the DJ, Vol. 1 and Deep Concentration. Cut Chemist left Jurassic 5 in 2006.
