Cy Coleman was an American composer, songwriter, and jazz pianist born on June 14, 1929, in New York City, New York. He passed away on November 18, 2004, at the age of 75, also in New York City. Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1981, Coleman is renowned for his notable songs such as "Witchcraft," "The Best Is Yet to Come," and "Big Spender." He wrote the scores for several Broadway productions, including Barnum, On The Twentieth Century, I Love My Wife, Seesaw, Sweet Charity, Little Me, and Wildcat. Some of his hit songs include "If My Friends Could See Me Now," "Big Spender," "Hey, Look Me Over," "The Best Is Yet To Come," and "Real Live Girl." Coleman received an Oscar nomination for the movie version of Sweet Charity (1970), which starred Shirley MacLaine. As a performer, Coleman charted once in the U.S. and achieved seventeen chart entries as a songwriter in both the U.S. and U.K. His funky disco instrumental "Chloe" reached #29 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart. Among his top-written songs is "If My Friends Could See Me Now" by Linda Clifford, which hit #1 on the U.S. Dance chart, #68 R&B, and #50 in the U.K. in 1978
