D*Note is a British experimental dance act known for its unique blend of Ambient, Nu-Jazz, Drum & Bass, House, and rare groove. The act is led by Matt Wienevski and features a group of musical friends, including keyboard players and guitarist Keith Osbourne. Over the years, D*Note has collaborated with various vocalists and rappers, including contributions from Charlie Lexton on scratching. Their debut album spawned four singles that received positive reviews. The follow-up album built on the debut's energy, featuring highlights such as the title track and "Iniquity Worker," with notable performances by vocalist P.Y. Anderson, who changed her name to avoid confusion with a celebrity. Anderson also contributed to the 1997 eponymous album, which leaned towards a house sound and included powerful anthems. The 2002 album continued in the house dance direction. The sixth D*Note album, released in 2006, is more introspective and features Beth Hirsch, known for her vocals on the first album. This album includes covers described by Wienevski as "hidden gems," aiming to blend the D*Note sound with strong American songs from the 70s folk rock era and drum & bass. In addition to his music career, Matt Winn has directed several short films, with one of them featuring his soundtrack. He also directed the movie "January 2nd."
