Danny Brown, born Daniel Dewan Sewell on March 16, 1981, is an American hip hop recording artist from Detroit, Michigan. Known for his individuality, he has been described by MTV as "one of rap's most unique figures in recent memory." Brown released his debut album, The Hybrid, in 2010 after a series of mixtapes. He gained significant recognition with his second album, XXX, in 2011, which received critical acclaim and was named Spin's "#1 hip hop album of the year" as well as earning him the title of Metro Times "Artist of the Year." In 2013, he achieved Billboard chart placement with his third album, Old, which reached number 18 on the US Billboard 200 chart and featured singles such as "Dip," "25 Bucks," and "Smokin & Drinkin."
