Darkthrone is a heavy metal band from Kolbotn, Norway, formed in 1987, initially founded as Black Death in 1986. The band began as a death metal group, releasing their debut album ‘Soulside Journey’ before deciding to shift their style to black metal. Over the years, Darkthrone's sound has diversified to include elements of traditional heavy metal, thrash, doom, death, speed metal, and crust punk. They have primarily ceased live performances since 1991, with their last show occurring in 1996, featuring Satyr as a one-off live bassist. Since 1993, Darkthrone has been a duo consisting of Fenriz (Gylve Nagell) and Nocturno Culto (Ted Skjellum).
