Dave Bartholomew was an American jazz bandleader, trumpeter, composer, producer, and arranger, born on December 24, 1918, in Edgard, Louisiana. He passed away on June 23, 2019, in Metairie, Louisiana, at the age of 100. Bartholomew led his own band starting in 1946 and became the A&R representative for a record label in New Orleans in 1949, where he recorded his first session that same year. Notably, in December 1949, he recorded a young pianist named Fats Domino performing "The Fat Man," which launched Domino's career. Over his lifetime, Bartholomew wrote more than 4,000 songs. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a Non-Performer. He was married to songwriter Rose Bartholomew from 1942 until her passing in 1967 and was the founder of a record label.
