Dave Douglas is an American jazz trumpeter and composer, born on March 24, 1963, in Montclair, New Jersey. His music draws from a variety of non-jazz styles, including classical music, European folk music, and Klezmer. Douglas has been a member of the experimental big band Orange Then Blue and currently serves as the director of the Festival of New Trumpet Music, held annually in New York City. Since 1993, he has released over twenty albums as a bandleader and has collaborated with numerous musicians, notably within various John Zorn ensembles. Through his own groups, Douglas has innovated new contexts for the trumpet in jazz and has recently ventured into collaborations that involve modern dance, spoken word, and film.
