Dave Dudley, born David Darwin Pedruska on May 3, 1928, in Spencer, Wisconsin, was an American country music singer best known for his truck-driving anthems during the 1960s and 1970s. He gained fame for his semi-slurred bass voice and his signature song "Six Days on the Road." The song, which references the use of stimulants by truckers, became a defining hit for him, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Country Charts and No. 32 on the Billboard US Chart. Dudley grew up in a farm family and began his music career at the age of 22 when he visited a friend at radio station WTWT. After impressing the station boss with his guitar playing and singing, he was invited to perform a program, which led to more gigs at various stations. He formed the Dudley Trio and played in bars and drinking establishments. Throughout his early career, he released numerous singles on various record labels between 1955 and 1962, though he later remarked that none of them were very good. His breakthrough came with the release of his first album, "Dave Dudley Sings ‘Six Days on the Road," which not only established him as a prominent figure in country music but also set the stage for a career focused on songs about the working man and truck driving. Dave Dudley passed away on December 22, 2003, in Danbury, Wisconsin.
