David Earle Johnson was an American percussionist known for his skills on congas and timbales, as well as being a composer and record producer. Born on April 10, 1938, in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of Earle H. Johnson and Lottie Ruth Troutman Johnson. Johnson was married to an artist-painter, and together they had four children. He passed away from cancer in 1998.
