David Evans is a prominent musicologist known for his expertise in country blues and related genres of African American Southern music. He serves as the director of the Ethnomusicology/Regional Studies doctoral program at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. Evans has authored several books on the Southern Blues idiom and has conducted numerous field recordings of blues, gospel, and folk musicians, which are highly sought after by collectors. In addition to his scholarly work, he performs as a blues guitarist and vocalist. He was born on January 22, 1944, in Boston, MA.
