David Moss is an American percussionist born in 1949 in New York City. He holds a BA degree in Russian History from Trinity College, which he completed in 1970. His musical training began at Hartt College of Music and Hartford Symphony, where he studied percussion under Joe Porcaro, Al Lepak, and Richard Lepore from 1963 to 1968. He continued his studies with Tanjore Ranganathan at Wesleyan University from 1969 to 1970 and later focused on composition under Bill Dixon at Bennington College from 1971 to 1973. During this period, he was also a percussionist for the Bill Dixon Ensemble. Since 1973, Moss has performed over 1,000 solo percussion and voice concerts, in addition to 3,000 concerts with various collaborators, theaters, and orchestras.
