Davy D, also known as Davy DMX, is an American musician, DJ, and producer born on October 3, 1960, in The Bronx, NYC. He began his journey in hip-hop by DJ'ing in neighborhoods across Queens. In the early 1980s, he formed a group called Orange Krush with bassist Larry Smith and drummer Trevor Gale, recording several singles and providing backing tracks for artists like Run-DMC, Sweet G, and Lovebug Starski. After the group's disbandment, he collaborated with Kurtis Blow as a DJ and guitarist, contributing to notable tracks such as "If I Ruled the World" and "The Breaks." Davy DMX gained recognition as a solo artist with singles like "One for the Treble" in 1984 and "The DMX Will Rock" in 1985, leading to the release of his full-length album, Davy's Ride, in 1987 under Def Jam. He also participated as a member of the Afros, a comedic group that evolved from Solo Sounds. Additionally, Tuff City released a collection of four-track recordings titled FFFresh, although he was not aware of it.
