Davy DMX, born on October 3, 1960, in The Bronx, NYC, is an American musician, DJ, and producer. Also known as Davy D., he began his journey in hip-hop by DJ'ing in neighborhoods around Queens. In the early 1980s, he joined forces with bassist Larry Smith and drummer Trevor Gale to form the group Orange Krush, which recorded several singles and provided backing tracks for notable artists like Run-DMC, Sweet G, and Lovebug Starski. After the group's disbandment, Davy DMX collaborated with Kurtis Blow as both a DJ and guitarist, contributing significantly to tracks such as "If I Ruled the World" and "The Breaks." He gained recognition as a solo artist with singles like "One for the Treble" in 1984 and "The DMX Will Rock" in 1985, leading to the release of his full-length album, Davy's Ride, in 1987 under Def Jam. In addition to his musical endeavors, he was a member of the comedic group the Afros, which originated from Solo Sounds. Tuff City later released a collection of his four-track recordings titled FFFresh, although he was unaware of this release.
