Dazz Band is a Cleveland-based funk group formed in the late '70s by Bobby Harris, who merged two local bands, Bell Telefunk and Mother Braintree. The lineup has seen numerous changes over the years, but notable members have included Harris, Skip Martin III, Pierre DeMudd on horns and vocals, guitarist Eric Fearman, the late bassist Michael Wiley, drummer Isaac Wiley, keyboardist Kevin Frederick, and percussionist Kenny Pettus. Originally named Kinsman Dazz, which reflects the concept of "danceable jazz," the band became known as the Dazz Band in 1980 after signing to Motown. They gained a reputation for their live performances, and in 1985, Fearman left the group, later replaced by Marlon McClain and Keith Harrison. After departing from Motown, the band recorded several albums on various labels and released their first official live album. In the 1990s, the resurgence of classic funk, R&B, and soul acts led to the formation of a tribute band by Bobby Harris called the United We Funk All-Stars, featuring members from various groups. They released a studio album that included a tribute to the late artists and captured the success of their performances on a live CD, promoted by a radio jockey who announced the shows.
