Death From Above 1979 is a duo from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, originally formed in 2001 under the name Death From Above. Due to legal issues with New York's DFA production team, they changed their name to Death From Above 1979 in 2004. The band announced their disbandment on August 4, 2006. However, on February 4, 2011, Sebastien Grainger confirmed that the band was reforming. They officially dropped the '1979' and reverted to just Death From Above in June 2017, before changing back to Death From Above 1979 in December 2020.
