Debbie Taylor, born Maddie Bell Galvin on June 23, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia, is an accomplished Soul/Funk/Jazz vocalist whose critical acclaim during the 1960s and 1970s did not translate into significant commercial success. She began singing Gospel music at a young age and toured in the genre by her teens. To respect her family's beliefs, she adopted the stage name Debbie Taylor when transitioning to secular music. In her early 20s, she was discovered by Decca Records talent scout Joe Medlin, leading to her recording sessions at Willie Mitchell’s studio in Memphis in 1967. There, she recorded tracks like "The Last Laugh Is On The Blues" and "Check Yourself," the latter earning her modest national fame when it reached #37 on the R&B charts in 1968. After her time with Decca, Taylor signed with GWP Records in New York City, where she had several releases, including her most successful single, "Never Gonna Let Him Know," which peaked at #18 R&B in 1969. Despite some successes, her subsequent releases did not chart, leading her to work with Perception Ventures and Today Records. In 1972, she released the LP "Comin’ Down On You," but the single "No Deposit, No Return" failed to achieve chart success. Taylor continued to release music sporadically, including the 1975 single "I Don’t Wanna Leave You,"
