Dee Clark (born November 7, 1938, Blytheville, Arkansas, USA – died December 7, 1990, Smyrna, Georgia, USA) was an American soul singer renowned for his R&B and pop hits during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Encouraged by his mother, Delecta, a gospel singer, Clark pursued his passion for music. His family moved to Chicago in 1941, where he began his musical journey. Clark made his first recording in 1952 as a member of a group that achieved an R&B hit with "Hambone." In 1953, he joined the Goldentones, later discovered by Chicago radio disc jockey Kent, who helped them secure a record deal. The group eventually recorded under the name Kool Gents for Falcon/Abner in 1956. Embarking on a solo career in 1957, Clark found moderate success with hits like "Just Keep It Up" and "Hey Little Girl," both reaching the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. His most significant single, "Raindrops," released in spring 1961, became a major hit, peaking at number two on the pop chart and number three on the R&B charts. The song, featuring rain and thunder sound effects, resonated with listeners and sold over two million copies.
