Dee Sharp, born Dion LaRue in 1945, is a vocalist from Philadelphia. Her stage name, Dee Dee Sharp, was created by producers, inspired by the fact that everyone referred to her as "D" and her singing in "D-sharp," a theoretical key signature not typically used by musicians. She later became known as Dee Dee Sharp after marrying sometime between 1966 and 1968.
