Deep Purple is a hard rock band formed in 1968 in England, United Kingdom. They are considered pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, although some members believe their music transcends genre classification. Known for their loud performances, they were once recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the loudest pop group" and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. In 2016, Deep Purple was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and ranked #22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock program.
