Dele Sosimi is a musician and producer based in London. His career began when he joined Fela Kuti's Egypt 80, where he played keyboards for seven years from 1979 to 1986. During Fela’s incarceration in 1984, Fela’s son, Femi Kuti, who was also Dele’s childhood school friend, temporarily took over the band. During this time, Dele developed his arranging skills as the musical director, re-orchestrating and re-arranging for Egypt 80 while also recruiting and training new musicians. In 1986, Dele and Femi left Egypt 80 to form their own band, where Dele served as the musical director and bandleader, responsible for recruiting and training new members, in addition to being the rhythm keyboard player and keyboard soloist. After leaving Femi Kuti & The Positive Force in December 1995, Dele moved to London, where he formed a new group. His projects reflect London’s multicultural environment, incorporating influences of jazz, deep funk, and Latin music, all while maintaining the heavy grooves of Afrobeat’s Yoruba rhythm, with Dele’s vocals firmly rooted in the Afrobeat tradition.
