Demon & Wizard is a side project formed by Jon Schaffer and Hansi Kürsch. The concept for the band emerged in the spring of 1997, stemming from their friendship that began when Blind Guardian and Iced Earth toured Europe together in the early 90s. The band's name is inspired by the 1972 album of the same name. On February 1st, 2021, Hansi Kürsch announced his departure from the group due to Jon Schaffer's involvement in the U.S. Capitol riots the previous month.
