Denise LaSalle was an American blues, R&B, and soul singer, songwriter, record producer, label owner, mentor, and entrepreneur, often referred to as the "Blues Queen." She was born on July 16, 1934, in LeFlore County, Mississippi, U.S.A., and passed away on January 8, 2018, in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A. LaSalle co-founded and co-owned a label with her ex-husband, and together they produced a number of hits for LaSalle as well as for other emerging R&B and disco artists from the early 1970s through to the early 1980s.
