Dennis Wilson (born December 4, 1944, Inglewood, California, USA – died December 28, 1983, Marina del Rey, California, USA) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who co-founded The Beach Boys with his brothers Brian and Carl, and cousin Mike Love. He primarily played drums and provided backing vocals for the band from its formation in 1961 until his death in 1983. Although he had few lead vocal opportunities in the 1960s, his role as a singer-songwriter grew during the 1970s. Wilson had a brief association in the late 1960s with an aspiring songwriter who was later convicted of murder conspiracy. In 1971, he starred in the road movie "Two-Lane Blacktop." Tragically, Dennis drowned at Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, after a day of drinking and diving to recover items he had previously thrown overboard from his yacht. He was married twice, first in 1976 and again in 1978.
