Der Expander des Fortschritts is a musical group founded in 1986, known for its unique style described as “pop musique concrète” or “abstract pop.” The band characterized itself by the use of disharmony and ruptures, leading to radio plays presented in a song format. Their work often drew material from the GDR, employing real-socialist satire. The name "Der Expander des Fortschritts" reflects a cultural appropriation of the term "progress," which was fetishized in the GDR, commonly used by factory sports clubs and solidarity concerts.
