Derrick Morgan is a Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae singer, deejay, writer, composer, and producer, born on March 27, 1940, in Stratton, Clarendon, Jamaica. At the age of three, he relocated to Allman Town in Kingston with his mother due to health issues, as he suffered from a retinal deficiency that eventually led to total blindness. He gained recognition after winning the "Vere Johns Opportunity Hour" singing competition, which led to his joining a troupe and making his first recording in 1960. Morgan initially worked with Prince Buster and later joined his brother-in-law Bunny Lee in 1968. He established his own labels, including "Morgan." In the late 1970s, he moved to Canada for three years before relocating to the USA and ultimately settling in England. He has since returned to Jamaica, where he supports the career of his daughter, Ventrice Morgan. Derrick is married to Nellie Lee Morgan, the sister of an unspecified individual.
