Desert Sessions is a series of recording sessions initiated by Josh Homme from 1997 to 2003 and revived in 2019, primarily at Rancho De La Luna, a house in Joshua Tree, California, equipped with recording gear and instruments. The sessions feature Homme alongside the house's owners, Dave Catching and Fred Drake, as well as numerous musicians from the Palm Desert, Desert Rock, and Stoner Rock scenes, along with visitors from further afield. The collaborative nature of these sessions allowed for songs to be written and recorded quickly, resulting in a fresh and rough sound. Some tracks from these sessions were later re-recorded by Homme's main group. The series includes several volumes: - **Vol.1 - Instrumental Driving Music For Felons** features Josh Homme on various instruments, alongside John McBain, David Catching, Alfredo Hernandez, Blank Bjork, Fred Drake, Ben Shepherd, and Pete Stahl. - **Vol.2 - Status: Ships Commander Butchered** features Homme as Carlo with a similar lineup to Vol.1, minus Fred Drake, who is credited only as an engineer. - **Vol.3 - Set Co-Ordinates For The White Dwarf!!!** includes two tracks by The Desert Sessions, featuring Homme, McBain, Shepherd, Hernandez, and Stahl, alongside two tracks by another group. - **Vol.4 - Hard Walls And Little Trips** features five tracks by two different groups, marking the first recording
