The Detroit Soul was a band formed around 1965, consisting primarily of local high school boys from New Britain and Pulaski high schools. The lead singer, Sal Lanares, hailed from South Windsor, Connecticut. Before Sal joined, the band was fronted by a three-man vocal group from Waterbury known as "The Connoisseurs." In 1967, they recorded a hit song titled "All of My Life," which gained popularity during a summer tour promoting the record. The song was later featured in the UK movie "SoulBoy" and included in its soundtrack. The band members included Peter Villano on Hammond B-3, Joey Verrillo on saxophone, Ronnie Carrubba on drums, Bart Mazzarella on bass, Richard (Skip) Blankenburg on trumpet, Angelo Marian on trumpet, and Sal Lanares on lead vocals.
