Dewa Alit is a composer and musician who founded Gamelan Salukat in 2007, seeking to express his innovative approach to gamelan music. Based in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia, Gamelan Salukat features a unique set of 11-tone gamelan instruments designed and tuned by Alit himself. The name "Salukat" is a combination of the words "salu," meaning house, and "kat," which signifies regeneration and cycles of rebirth, symbolizing a space for new creativity rooted in tradition. The ensemble consists of approximately 25 young musicians from the Ubud area, all of whom possess high skill and knowledge in traditional gamelan. They are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of Balinese gamelan music by performing Alit's most recent and challenging compositions.
