Dick Flood was an American singer, hit songwriter, and recording artist, born on November 13, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He passed away on January 9, 2023, in Augusta, Georgia. In the mid-1950s, Flood formed a duo with an Army buddy, which led to an appearance on The Jimmy Dean Show in 1956. The duo became regulars on the show and eventually signed a contract with Columbia Records, staying with Dean for three years until the show's conclusion in 1958. After the show ended, Flood moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting, while his partner signed with another record label. In 1964, Flood organized a three-piece group and later created his own music label. In 1981, he changed his name to Okefenokee Joe and went on to host and narrate the Emmy award-winning documentary Swampwise on Georgia Public Broadcasting in 1989.
