Dick Hyman is an American keyboard player and composer, born on March 8, 1927, in New York City, New York. He studied at Columbia University and has collaborated with notable musicians such as Teddy Wilson, Red Norvo, and Benny Goodman. Hyman recorded under various pseudonyms and gained significant recognition in 1955 when his trio's cover of "Moritat" on harpsichord sold over a million copies. In the late 1960s, he explored the early periods of jazz and ragtime, researching and recording the music of pioneering jazz figures. Hyman is known for experimenting with different keyboard instruments, including Baldwin and Lowrey organs, and recorded a series of avant-garde albums using a minimoog synthesizer during the late 1960s. He has produced some of the most acclaimed albums from the space age pop genre and has also worked in television, scoring film soundtracks for Woody Allen, in addition to his work as a jazz pianist and organist.
