The Dicks were an American punk rock band formed in Austin, Texas, in 1980. They moved to San Francisco in 1983 and broke up in 1986, reuniting occasionally until 2016. The original lineup included a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and drummer. The band was known for their confrontational stage presence, with vocalist Floyd, an openly homosexual performer who often appeared in drag and engaged with close-minded audience members, leading the charge. After relocating to San Francisco, members Taylor, Parrot, and Deason returned to Austin, while Floyd continued with the Dicks' name, bringing in new members on drums, bass, and guitar. This lineup released one LP before disbanding in 1986, after which Floyd and Perko formed another group. The original Austin lineup had sporadic reunions until the death of guitarist in 1997. In 2004, Floyd, Parrot, and Deason came together again for performances in Austin, joined by various guitarists. Their final show took place on October 31, 2016. Floyd passed away on May 2, 2024.
