Didjits was a punk rock band from Mattoon, Illinois, formed in 1983 by brothers Rick Sims (vocals & guitar) and Brad Sims (drums), along with Doug Evans (bass). The band's music was known for its high-energy guitar sound, influenced by early rock 'n roll icons like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, complemented by Rick Sims' witty lyrics. On stage, Rick Sims was recognized for his distinctive persona, often wearing suits and sunglasses while engaging with the audience in a playful manner. The group released their debut LP, "Fizzjob," on their own Bam Bam Records in 1986. In 1988, they signed with a label after it heard an advance copy of their second LP, "Hey Judester," and remained with that label for most of their career, which included a reissue of "Fizzjob." After the release of "Full Nelson Reilly" in 1991, Brad Sims left the band to focus on work and family, leading to Rey Washam joining for the 1992 EP "Little Miss Carriage." Todd Cole later took over drumming duties for the LP "Que Sirhan Sirhan," but the band disbanded the following year. In 2006, the original lineup reunited for Touch & Go's 25th Anniversary Party and performed again in Champaign, IL, a week later. Doug Evans passed away on December 28, 2016.
