Die Gesunden, translating to "the healthy ones," was primarily a duo that included members who sadly passed away on November 12, 2008. They were joined on drums by a musician who later gained recognition for his role in Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Influenced by Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, and Eno/Bowie, who were recording "Low" in Berlin at the same time, Die Gesunden emerged as one of the first Neue Deutsche Welle outfits. Their self-titled LP was released in 1982 on Innovative Communication, an independent record label founded by Klaus Schulze in 1978, inspired by the early Berlin Neue Deutsche Welle bands. Mabel, a key figure in the Berlin music scene, promoted local gigs for early acts like Einstürzende Neubauten and organized shows at the Exxcess club, which also inspired the formation of Die Gesunden. The band enjoyed moderate success in Germany, highlighted by a tour in 1981 supporting DAF (Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft).
