Die Haut, which translates to "The Skin" in English, was a German Post-Punk band based in Berlin. Initially, the band intended to focus solely on instrumental music, but throughout their career, they collaborated with various guest vocalists on many of their recordings. The only consistent member of the band was Christoph Dreher, who also worked as an author, director, and filmmaker. Notable guest vocalists who performed live and contributed to their recordings include Nick Cave, Kid Congo Powers, Anita Lane, Debbie Harry, Mick Harvey, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Blixa Bargeld, Lydia Lunch, Alexander Hacke, Arto Lindsay, Kim Gordon, Cristina Martinez, Laurie Tomin, Alan Vega, Louisa Bradshaw, Danielle de Picciotto, and others.
