Dinah Shore was an American singer, actress, and television personality born on February 29, 1916, in Winchester, Tennessee, USA. She passed away on February 24, 1994, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Shore gained immense popularity during the Big Band era of the 1940s and 1950s. After unsuccessful singing auditions for prominent bands, she embarked on a solo career, becoming the first singer of her era to achieve significant solo success. Over her career, she charted 80 popular hits from 1940 into the late '50s. In addition to her music career, she appeared in several films and enjoyed a four-decade tenure in American television, starring in her own music and variety shows during the '50s and '60s and hosting two talk shows in the '70s. TV Guide magazine ranked her #16 on their list of the top fifty television stars of all time. Stylistically, she was compared to two singers who emerged in the mid-to-late '40s and early '50s.
