The Direct Hits were a band formed in 1980 in South London, emerging from a previous incarnation. The original lineup included a drummer whose name is not specified, and they only performed live shows and recorded a few demos before changes occurred. Following the original drummer, another took over for a few months before quitting, leading to Brian Grover stepping in. Eventually, a final drummer joined just as the band was on the verge of splitting, and this lineup played in subsequent one-off gigs. In 1981, the band met Dan Treacy and began recording for the Whaam! record label. They released a single and an album, but their future releases were primarily on their own imprints, except for "Speed Over Berlin." Despite extensive touring in Britain and Europe and several notable releases, the Direct Hits never achieved mainstream success and disbanded in 1987. They reunited for one-off performances in Autumn 1988, 2004, and 2017.
